Zimbabwe Trip Report 2013
Kariba was, as ever, my idea of heaven and, despite the number of visits and time I have spent there over the years, I still managed to extend my image portfolio by a significant amount. I never cease to be amazed at the size to which a crocodile can grow and the sheer bulk and majesty of some of the Elephant Bulls that come down to drink is awe inspiring. Fishing for your supper of fresh Kariba Bream is an experience in itself and since the inadvertent introduction of Crayfish to the Lake the subsequent population explosion means that the crayfish traps set overnight will almost certainly provide shellfish snacks the following day. Our Houseboat was exceptional in terms of comfort and facilities and, personally, I could have happily stayed there for months. (Images 26-29)
This Kariba trip was particularly productive for the Bird Photographers and a wealth of Storks, Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers, Hornbills, Plovers, Raptors and assorted Water Birds seemed almost to dutifully pose for us. (Images 30-34)
All good things come to an end!
A return to base near Harare for a day's R&R presaged a return to the UK after a very successful and enjoyable trip and one that I hope to replicate over the coming seasons.
